Need to coldwork your cast and fused pieces?  Attend a one-day intensive, hands-on workshop at D&L Stained Glass Supply, Inc. where you'll be introduced to glass cutting, grinding, polishing, and carving techniques. Instructor Maureen Maxwell will discuss safety procedures, and then general cutting, polishing and drilling concepts. Demonstrations will include the operation of flat horizontal polishing wheels, belt sanders, beveling machine and trim saw. Class size is limited to ensure adequate hands-on instruction.

Please join us for Beginning Coldworking with Maureen Maxwell, you'll be glad you did. This class will be wet and sometimes noisy. Students are asked to bring safety glasses and a dust mask rated for silica dust, and optionally, noise protection. Wear rubber-soled shoes and clothes that can be wet (waterproof aprons provided).

Kiln Casting with Colour de Verre

Jayne has designed a special class for the serious Pate-de-Verre enthusiast. Inspired by her studies with the Higuchis (world recognized masters of the Pate-de-Verre process from Japan) she has created an in-depth two day class that will teach you how to mix colors, create color gradations, and develop your own glass palette. These skills will prepare you to create your own line of reproducible pate-de-verre glass products by showing not only the techniques to use but how to think differently about your design approaches. Emphasis is on being able to develop a repeatable design as opposed to an accidental, one of a kind piece. Student projects will include a 2-piece lamp using the new Colour de Verre lamp former, multiple components and a sculptural piece. After each student creates a set of color-blended samples to use for this and future projects, the class will learn to use a damming system and different ways to "charge" or fill reusable molds to achieve controlled designs. You will take away a thorough understanding of this exciting, time-honored technique and how it can be applied to jewelry, art objects and other spectacular pieces.

Students are asked to bring safety glasses, a dust mask, and optionally, colored pencils/paper for designing.

Jayne will share her exciting and innovative glass forming process in this action-packed class where you'll create two beautiful bracelets and one stunning watchband from pre-fused elements. Along the way you'll be introduced to Jayne's pioneering methods of designing, cutting, layering and shaping glass into wearable art. Manipulation of glass over molds and how to use custom tools will be a particular focus of this workshop. Finishing and wiring techniques to complement and complete designs will also be thoroughly covered.

Introduction to Glass Fusing

This is a TWO DAY beginning class for students with no prior fusing experience.

Date: Tuesday-Wednesday, July 22-23, 2008

The art of glass fusing opens a world of incredible possibilities: gift items, architectural glass, furniture, jewelry and table ware, not to mention fine-art projects of all kinds.

This class starts with basics:

* Firing a kiln (each student will fire a Hot Box kiln
   at least one time)
* Kiln preparation
* Keeping a project log book
* Glass behavior in the kiln
* Introduction to, and use of, a multitude of available products for the art of glass fusing.

The second day you'll make a variety of small products like jewelry, a slumped dish, a draped card holder, a pen holder or other projects. Due to kiln space limitations you might not be able to fire every project during class, but you'll see many different samples fired, and you'll learn enough to confidently fire such pieces on your own.

Students are asked to bring: Safety Glasses, glass cutting tools, notebook and pencil.

Mold Making with Kaiser Lee Board

This is a ONE DAY beginning class, fusing experience recommended but not required.

                   and continental breakfast.

Kaiser Lee board is one of the easiest and most versatile products available for fused-glass mold making. This class will show you a building block method that allows unlimited mold designs. You'll be guided through the steps required to make various objects, such as a serving bowl, a soup bowl, plates and platters, several vase designs and several dish designs. Those projects will use one 1" x 12" square board and pieces cut from 1" x 8" x 9" boards. Bring a camera to record the different setups. Petra will also demonstrate techniques to modify and personalize the basic designs.

Finally, you'll see how to adapt the building blocks to create little sculptures, free standing mantel clocks and other objects. If class time permits, one of the basic projects will be prepared and fired in class for you to take home. Along the way, Petra will discuss and demonstrate various glass fusing techniques such as how to make kiln-formed stringers and glass raking.

Students are asked to bring safety glasses, dust mask, long-sleeve work shirt, glass cutting tools, mosaic cutter, tweezers, one old newspaper, scissors, notebook and pencil. (Don't forget your camera.)

Art glass icon Peter McGrain will take you through painting on glass processes beginning with an historical overview, a demonstration of general applications and techniques and then his Vitri-Fusaille technique. This process combines the techniques of Flat Glass Fusing with Traditional Glass Painting to produce vivid imagery unconfined by the presence of interfering lead lines or fragmented compositions.

In this workshop you'll learn a series of design strategies that will lead to an attainable project plan. In the hands-on workshops, through both personal and class projects, you'll explore glass painting techniques by creating a series of glass tiles. Using a variety of traditional glass painting techniques, the tiles will be developed and accomplished with several separate paint applications and kiln firings. Finished tiles can be framed or integrated into more traditional glass working formats.

Advanced Painting on Glass

This is a TWO DAY class, previous Peter McGrain class required.

This workshop is a continuation of the techniques and processes learned in McGrain's popular Vitri-Fusaille introductory class. This process combines the processes of Flat Glass Fusing with Traditional Glass Painting to produce vivid imagery unconfined by the presence of interfering lead lines or fragmented compositions.

In this workshop you'll learn new and advanced techniques of the vitri-fusaille process. Emphasis is on individual projects and on incorporating these techniques in individual designs. Beautiful slide presentations and entertaining lectures and demonstrations make this workshop informative, educational, and most of all, fun.

Since this is a limited-size advanced class, Peter will be able to focus more one-on-one time with you, helping you develop your own style of painting on glass.

Students should bring the Peter McGrain tool kit from their previous Painting on Glass workshop.
