 Illuminated Art Glass- Kiln Cast Lighting Fixtures: . . . A three day hands-on workshop

This design
intensive three-day class will involve frit casting work applicable to many
types of glass art, as well as lamp-building specifics such as light
transmission and balance. In this hands-on workshop you will learn how to
design and fabricate various styles of lighting fixtures as well as creating
deep drop lamps using “The Self Center Slumper”. Each student will create a stunning
fused glass lamp shade using the techniques learned in this course. Topics that
will be covered will include working with reusable glass casting molds
(preparation, care and filling), mixing colors of frit to create color
gradation as well as custom colors and firing and annealing schedules.
Class size is
limited to six students. **due to lengthy annealing schedules this project, lamps not immediately available at conclusion of the class. Students will be responsible for any shipping charges of the lamp if required.

one-day Pate de Verre box class will teach you how to mix colors, create
color
gradations, develop a color palette and create custom colors. The focus of this workshop will be primarily on the mixing & weighing of frit and how to properly
fill molds. Each student will cast a box and lid and will thin cast components that
will be
applied to the box lid. Students will work with re-usable molds to
create a
cast piece, however the techniques and information learned in this
workshop may

demand in the D&L classroom, Introduction to Kiln Formed Bracelets will
introduce you to Jayne Persico’s original and innovative technique for creating
beautiful glass bracelets.
In this action
packed hands-on workshop two beautiful bracelets and one watchband from
pre-fused elements will be created. Persico’s pioneering methods of designing,
cutting, layering and shaping glass into wearable art will all be introduced
and implemented in this course. The manipulation of glass over molds and how to
use custom tools for sizing and bracelet forming will be a particular focus.
Finishing and wiring techniques to complement and complete designs will also be
included.
Students are
asked to bring safety glasses and wire wrapping pliers.

New Coldworking Class Date Added: Dichroic
Faceted Pendants A one-day coldworking workshop, beginner
level.

includes all materials, lab fees, continental breakfast and lunch. Join Master Coldworking artist Kent Lauer for
this brand new, one-day class. Students will learn the basics of coldworking and beveling and will have the opportunity to make beautiful, faceted dichroic glass pendants. A thin layer of amazing patterned dichroic glass will be laminated between two layers of optically clear glass, which is then ground and polished into an incredible jewel. This exciting hands-on class will cover all aspects of creating these breathtaking pendants, from cutting 1/2" thick glass with a diamond ring saw, to laminating and beveling. Students will have the option of affixing bails to the pendants the day of the class, or taking them home to wire wrap or set them in precious metal clay or silver. "Not only will students learn to make dichroic pendants in this intensive class, at the same time they are learning the basics of cold working and beveling. It is really like three classes in one," Lauer says.

beautiful faceted dichroic glass sculpture!
This hands-on class
will cover all aspects of creating this piece, from cutting 3/4" glass
with a diamond ring saw, to laminating and beveling. A thin layer of dichroic glass will be laminated between two pieces of
optically clear float
glass, then ground and polished to
perfection. No glass cutting experience is required.
Class size is limited
to six students to ensure everyone gets individual instruction. Each
student will also have full-time access to a 12" horizontal lap

We have added an additional element to an already amazing Patty Gray workshop! See your fused glass art transformed into a beautiful vase by a professional glassblower using the "roll-up" technique of glass forming, a process that combines kiln-formed and blown glass.
Learn techniques to create exquisite, gallery quality fused art in this five day workshop. Develop and build upon your design and composition skills while exciting
your imagination with new ideas and techniques. Patty Gray will teach many warm glass processes that develop
design skills including pattern bars, combing and manipulating glass in
the kiln, working with mosaics, high fire projects, pot melts/pours,
vitrograph, bas-relief and frit cast objects for inclusion into the
final project. Surface design elements will also be explored including
frits, powders, stringers, metals, mica powders, frit painting, and
dichroic glass. You will be involved in many hands-on projects that
develop on new ideas, designs and techniques learned in this workshop and will have the opportunity to make a triptych (3 piece panel) as well
as glass bowls and plates. Students will learn many coldworking techniques, from cutting fused pattern bars on a saw, to edge working and grinding using horizontal flat lap machines. This workshop is filled with projects, techniques, equipment and ideas that will open a new world of possibilities.
Students are asked to bring a glass cutter, safety glasses, breaking
pliers, ruler and notebook.
Note: Due to the nature of the roll-up process, the roll-ups and roll-up viewing will extend past normal class hours. Attendance during extended hours is optional.

Spacious and well-lit, our 1400 square foot learning center helps to make every D&L class a special event! It’s loaded with state-of-the-art equipment for coldworking, casting, fusing and all types of glasswork. D&L has machines from ASW Diamond, Covington, Denver Glass Machinery, Gemini, Glastar and MK Diamond. We have kilns from Evenheat, Paragon, Skutt and Denver Glass Machinery; ringsaws, bandsaws, and grinders from Gemini, Glastar and Gryphon Corp. Finally, you'll find glass cutting systems from Bohle, Creators Stained Glass, Morton Glassworks and more. Everything you need to create in glass!
The D&L classroom, located in our beautiful Denver warehouse, is well-lit with an open floor plan that allows plenty of tables and work space. Most classes include a continental breakfast, a selection of delicious lunches, as well as snacks and refreshments each day.
